Built for Speed

I’m using the fabulous licensed work of Michael Landefeld which can be purchased at CILM  

  

Supplies needed:

 

 PSP

(I wrote this in X but any version will work)

Animation Shop

Plugins: Lokas 3D Shadow (get it HERE)

Alien Skin Eye Candy 5 Nature > Fire

(you can download a 30 day DEMO version from Alien Skin HERE)

Tube of choice

Vortex Graphic

(included in supplies)

Font:  Speed +

(included in supplies)

Mask(s): gemsmask8 by Gems

(included in supplies)

Scrap Kit: SPEED LIMIT by Amanda Kelleher of Tantrum Scraps HERE

 

 

SUPPLIES

  

Let’s get started!

 

Unzip your supplies

Open your font 

Put your mask in your Mask folder

Unzip your filter to your filters folder

Open your Vortex Graphic in PSP

 

Open a new canvas 700 X 700

Flood fill with white

 

Open SpeedLimit_Paper6 from Speed Limit kit

 

Layers > Load/Save Mask from Disk

Find gemsmask8 from the drop down

Fit to layer, Hide all mask, Source Luminance checked

Hit OK

Merge Group

 Copy and paste as a new layer onto your canvas

 

 Open SpeedLimit_Frame 5

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Resize by 90% and position towards the bottom of your canvas

Add the following drop shadow:

2, 2, 50, 4, color = black

 

Copy and paste SpeedLimit_Track onto your canvas

Drag below frame layer and move down until you can’t see

the blurry edge

Erase any of the track showing outside of your frame

 

Copy and paste my Vortex Graphic as new layer

Drag below track layer and position so the center of the vortex meets the end of the road

(see mine for reference)

Using your Selections tool, crop off any excess Vortex Graphic showing outside of your frame

 

Open SpeedLimit_Ribbon5

Image > Rotate > Left

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position on the left side of your frame

Image > Flip and re-center

Add the following drop shadow

2, 2, 50, 4, color = black

 

 

Open your SpeedLimit_Sign

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Resize by 35% and position at the bottom left of your frame

Using your raster deform tool

hold the Ctrl key down and drag the left bottom corner node

upwards a bit to skew the sign

Release the Ctrl key and drag the middle left node inwards a bit

Holding your Shift key down, move your bottom right corner node towards the left

Still holding the Shift key down, move your bottom left corner node to the left

When the sign looks like it’s leaning on the frame you’ve nailed it!

Adjust > sharpen

 

Apply Lokas > 3D Shadow with the following settings:

 

 

Click OK

 

Merge your sign, ribbon and frame together

 

Copy and paste your tube onto your canvas

Position to your liking

Duplicate layer twice

 

Activate your bottom tube layer

Effects > Distortion Effects > Wind

Direction = from left

Wind Strength = 50

 

Activate your middle copy of your tube

Effects > Distortion Effects > Wind

Direction = from right

Wind Strength = 50

 

Merge 3 copies of your tube together

 

Activate your vortex layer

Click on your foreground color in your materials palette

Use your eyedropper to choose a color from your tube or graphic

Take note of the H and S values

Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize

Enter the H and S values

(for this tutorial I used H = 30 S = 251)

If you like what you see in the preview click OK

 

Add your copyright information

 

Hide your white background layer

Layers > Merge Visible

 

Resize by no more then 500 on the longest side

(all layers checked)

Sharpen if necessary

 

Activate your text tool

Set your background color to black and choose a color from your graphic or tube for the stroke

Find your Speed+ font in your drop down list

Size = 36

Anti-alias checked

Stroke = 1

Create as Vector

Type the word SPEED in all caps

Click Apply

 

Position your text above your frame

(see mine for placement)

Objects > Align > Horz. Center in Canvas

Convert to raster

Rename Speed 1

Duplicate your SPEED text layer

 

Click on the bottom SPEED text layer

Effects > Distortion Effects > Wind

Direction = from left

Wind Strength = 100

  

Activate your text tool again

Background = black

Foreground = Null

Font of choice

(I used Impact with size = 22)

Create as Vector

 

Type “Built for”

Click Apply and position above your SPEED text

Objects > Align > Horz. Center in Canvas

Convert to raster

Drag this layer below your SPEED 1 layer

 

Activate your SPEED 1 layer

Effects > Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Nature > Fire

Click on your Settings Tab

Use the following setting:

 

 

Click on your Basic Tab and use the following settings:

 

 

Hit OK

 

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Open Animation Shop

Ctrl + V to paste as new animation

 

Back in PSP

Hit Undo once

 

Effects > Fire

Hit your Random Seed button until you get a nice flame effect

(make sure the flame doesn’t go off the preview canvas)

Hit OK

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Edit > Paste as New Animation

Hit your right arrow once to highlight 2nd frame

 

Back in PSP

Hit Undo once

 

Effects > Fire

Hit your Random Seed button until you get a nice flame effect

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Edit > Paste as New Animation

Hit your right arrow once to highlight 3rd frame

  

Repeat this 3 more times hitting the Random Seed button each time until you have 6 frames in Animation Shop

 

Ctrl + A to select all frames

Animation > Animation Properties

Click Opaque and change the color to white

 

Animation > Frame Properties > 15

 

Animation > Resize (to your preference)

 

View > Animation and SAVE!
