Feelin' Groovy

 

 

This tutorial was created by me on December 18 2008, 2008.

I’m using the fabulous licensed work of Joel Adams which can be purchased at CILM

  

Supplies needed:

 

 PSP

(I wrote this in X but any version will work)

Animation Shop

Plugins:  Alien Skin Xenofex 2 > Constellation (download a DEMO version HERE)

1-2 Tubes from same artist

Template:  Template 20 by me (included in supplies)

Visit my blog HERE

Mask: Mask 12 by me (included in supplies)

Font:  BellBottom (included in supplies)

Scrap Kit:  pieces from my Feelin’ Groovy scrap kit

(included in supplies)

 SUPPLIES

(feel free to recolor any of the papers to compliment your tubes)

 

Let’s get started!

 

Unzip your supplies.

Open your font

Open your template and silver pattern in PSP

 

Shift + D to duplicate the template and close the original

 

Delete the copyright information

 

Image > Canvas size > 700 X 650 center placement

Flood fill your background with white if needed

 

Click on center slats layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Add a new raster layer

Open FG_paper12_CBJ

Click on your foreground on your materials palette

Click on Patterns and locate the paper

Angle = 0

Scale = 50

Flood fill the selection and deselect

Delete center slats layer

 

Click on middle slats layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Open FG_paper1_CBJ

Copy and paste as new layer

Selections > Invert

Hit Delete and deselect

 

Click on wavy background layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Open FG_paper8_CBJ

Copy and paste as a new layer

Selections > Invert > Delete

Delete wavy background layer

 

Click on wavy frame layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Add a new raster layer

Click on your foreground on your materials palette

Click on Patterns and locate the Silver Tile pattern

Angle = 0

Scale = 50

Flood fill the selection and deselect

Adjust > Sharpen > Sharpen

Delete wavy frame layer

Add the following drop shadow

0, 0, 80, 15

Re-apply drop shadow

 

Click on top left flower layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Open FG_paper2_CBJ

Copy and paste as a new layer

Selections > Invert > Delete

Delete top left flower layer

Add a drop shadow

2, -2, 80, 7

Delete top left flower layer

 

Click on bottom left flower layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Open FG_paper6_CBJ

Copy and paste as a new layer

Reposition behind marching ants

Selections > Invert > Delete

Add same drop shadow

Delete bottom left flower layer

 

Click on bottom right flower layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Open FG_paper3_CBJ

Copy and paste as a new layer

Selections > Invert > Delete

Add a drop shadow

2, 2, 80, 7

Delete bottom right flower layer

 

Click on top right flower layer

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Open FG_paper4_CBJ

Copy and paste as a new layer

Reposition behind marching ants

Selections > Invert > Delete

Add a drop shadow

-1, 2, 80, 7

Delete top right flower layer

 

Click on your black wavy background layer

Open FG_groovy-beadedcurtain_CBJ

Copy and paste as a new layer

Resize by 70 % and position towards the left side of the wavy background

(about 2 strands should be past the background)

Duplicate layer and mirror

Reposition so the beads are covering the black background at the top

Merge the 2 bead layers together

 

Click on your black wavy layer again

Selections > Float

Click on your bead layer

Selections > Invert and hit delete

Adjust > Add/Remove Noise

Gaussian, 40, Monochrome checked

Hit Ok and Sharpen

Add a drop shadow

0, 0, 100, 6

Re-apply same drop shadow

 

Click on your white background layer

Open a new transparent canvas 350 x 325

Flood fill it with a color from your graphic

Layers > New Mask Layer > From Image

Find cbj_mask12 in the drop down

Source Luminance checked

Hit OK and merge group

 

Add a new raster layer and hide the first mask layer

Flood fill with another color from your graphic

Apply the same mask again and merge group

Repeat the above for 2 more colors from your image so you have a total of 4 different colored masks.

 

Hide everything on your main image except for the white background

Unhide your 4 mask layers

Copy and paste each one onto your canvas

Position them so they make a square covering the canvas

When you are happy with the results, merge visible

 

On the same layer

Effects > Distortion Effects > Twirl > 720

Hit ok

 

Still on the same layer, reapply the mask again

Merge group

 

Open FG_frame7_CBJ

(I’ve included a few additional frames so you can continue to your liking)

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position on the right side of your canvas

Add a drop shadow

2, 2, 50, 2

 

Open FG_beadstrand1_CBJ

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position to your liking and add a drop shadow

 

Open one of your bows

Resize by 20%

Copy and paste onto your canvas and position at the top of your beadstrand

 

Copy and paste your tube(s) and position to your liking

Add a drop shadow

 

Click on your beaded curtain layer

Set your background to white and your foreground to null

Activate your text tool and find BellBottom in the drop down

Use the following settings:

 

Type out any text you’d like

Rotate your text to mimic the same slant as the wave layer

Selections > From Vector Object

Hide your text

Click on your bead layer and hit delete

Click on each slat layer and hit delete

You should now see the mask layer in the letters

Do not deselect yet!

 

Click on your mask layer

Add a new raster layer

Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout

V/H = 0

Opacity = 100

Blur = 10

Color = black or your choice (I chose #152640 from eye dropping one of my tubes…you’ll need a dark color to show up)

Hit Ok and deselect

(I also repositioned my flowers at this point)

 

Click on your top layer

Open the FG_glitterdoodle5_CBJ

(recolor if needed)

Copy and paste onto your canvas and position to your liking

Drag the doodle layer to right above your mask layer

 

Open your other doodle

(recolor if needed)

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position to your liking

 

Merge the 2 doodles together and erase any that are showing through your text

 

Click on your bead layer

Open FG_groovy-peacesign2

Resize by 50%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 45 degrees left and reposition if necessary

Sharpen and add a drop shadow

2, 2, 50, 5

 

Open FG_wordart6_CBJ

Copy and paste onto your canvas and position top left

 

Add your copyright information and name

(I used the glitter tile in the supplies and adjusted the hue and saturation to match the green)

 

Starting at your top layer, merge down until you get to your slats frame

(do not merge into that layer)

 

Image > Resize by 71%, all layers checked

 

Hide your white background

 

Click on your slats frame layer

 

Effects > Plugins > Alien Skin Xenofex 2 > Constellation

Use the following settings

 

 

Click Ok

 

Activate your eraser tool and erase over the text on the wave to get rid of all the sparkles

 

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Open Animation Shop

Ctrl V to paste as new animation

 

Back in PSP

Click Undo until you get back to your black frame

Effects > Constellation

Hit your random seed

Click Ok

Erase the sparkles from the text again

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Edit > Paste after current frame

Tap your right arrow once to select the new frame

 

Back in PSP

Click Undo once

Effects > Constellation

Hit your random seed

Click Ok

Erase the sparkles from your text again

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Edit > Paste after current frame

Tap your right arrow once to select the new frame

 

Back in PSP

Click Undo once

Effects > Constellation

Hit your random seed

Click Ok

Erase the sparkles from your text again

Edit > Copy Merged

  

Back in AS

Edit > Paste after current frame

 

Ctrl A to select all frames

Animation > Animation Properties

Click Opaque and color = white

Hit Ok

Resize if necessary

 

View > Animation

File > Save As
