A Misfits Halloween

This tutorial was created by me on September 27, 2008.

Supplies needed:

 PSP

(I wrote this in X but any version will work)

Animation Shop

Tube (if desired)

Font of choice

(I used Pussycat and BlackJack )

Mask:  WSL_Mask133 by Chelle  HERE

Scrap Kit: “Grim Halloween” by Yvette of Misfits Scrapz HERE

 

 Let’s get started!

 

Put your mask in your Mask folder

 

Open a new canvas, 700 X 600, background = white

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Frame2

Image > Rotate right

Resize 40%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 8 degrees left and sharpen

  

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Frame3

Image > Rotate right

Resize 40%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 8 degrees left

 

Center and position frames so bottom corners are overlapping

Merge frames

 

Activate your magic wand and click inside purple frame

Selections > Modify > Expand by 3

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Paper12

Copy and paste as new layer onto your canvas

Selections > Invert

Hit delete and deselect

Drag below Frame layer

 

Duplicate layer and free rotate 16 degrees left

Position behind green frame

 

Add the following drop shadow to your frame layer

0, 0, 75, 10, color = white

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Franky

Resize 60%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 8 degrees right

Position behind purple colored frame

Add same drop shadow

 

Yvette_GrimHalloween_Jack

Resize 50%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 8 degrees left

Position behind green colored frame

With your GrimHalloween_Jack layer still selected

Selections > Select All > Float > Defloat

Click on your frame layer and erase any of the frame covering the Jack

Deselect and click on Jack layer

Add same drop shadow

 

OpenYvette_GrimHalloween_Wrap1

Resize 25%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 8 degrees right

Position on top of purple frame

Use your raster deform tool to resize to fit frame

Sharpen and add same drop shadow but change color to black

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Wrap3

Resize 25%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 8 degrees left

Position to on top of green frame

Use your raster deform tool to resize to fit frame

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Hide your white background and merge visible

  

Yvette_GrimHalloween_Moon

Resize 35%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 30 degrees right

Position top left of your canvas

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Tree

Resize 75%

Copy and paste onto your canvas and position on the left side

(see mine for placement)

Drag below Frame layer

Duplicate layer and mirror

Merge tree layers together and add same drop shadow but change color to white

 

 Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Fence

Resize 75%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position towards bottom of canvas

Add same drop shadow

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Pumpkin2

Resize 35%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position bottom left of fence

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Pumpkin1

Resize 35%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Drag below Pumpkin2 layer and position beside it

Merge pumpkins together

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

  

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Cat 1

Resize 30%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position towards the right side of the fence

(see mine for placement)

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Cat 2

Resize 30%

Image > Mirror

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position on top of fence on left

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Toad

Resize 30%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position on fence in center

(see mine for placement)

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Spider

Resize 40%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position to right of your canvas

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

Rename Spider

 

Click on your moon layer

On your materials palette, change your foreground to black and your background to null

Using your pen tool (Mode = Draw lines and polylines, Width = 3)

Draw a line from the center of your spider up to the first tree branch

Convert to raster and rename Line

Click on your Layer Link Toggle on your layers palette

 

 

 and click once

 

Click on your spider layer

Click on your Layer Link Toggle and click once

Both layers should be locked together with a value of 1

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Bat

Resize 40%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 20 degrees left

Position to left of your canvas by moon

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Open Yvette_GrimHalloween_Hat

Resize 40%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 15 degrees left

Position to on top left of purple frame

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Yvette_GrimHalloween_Bow2

Resize 25%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Position on fence to right of frog

(see mine for placement)

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

 

Duplicate layer

Position on fence to left of frog

 

Hide your white background, spider, fence, frames, trees, and line layer

Merge visible

 

Merge your fence, frames and trees together

 

Click on your white background layer

Add a new raster layer

Flood fill with black

Layers > Load/Save Mask from Disk

Find WSL_Mask133 from drop down

Fit to Canvas, Source Luminance and Show all mask checked

Click Load

Merge Group

 

Yvette_GrimHalloween_Eyes3

Resize 90%

Copy and paste onto your canvas

Free rotate 20 degrees left

Position on right between tree branches

(see mine for placement)

Sharpen and add same drop shadow

rename Eyes 1

 

Duplicate layer and position to the right of the tree

Resize by 90% and free rotate 40 degrees right

Sharpen and rename Eyes 2

 

Duplicate layer and mirror

Rename Eyes 3

 

Click on Eyes 1 and duplicate layer

Zoom in on eyes

Click on your foreground in your materials palette and using your eyedropper, pick a color close to the pupil

Using your paint brush, on the duplicated layer, paint over the black circles in both eyes

Drag layer below Eyes 1 and hide

 

Click on Eyes 2 and duplicate layer

Zoom in on eyes

Click on your foreground in your materials palette and using your eyedropper, pick a color close to the pupil

Using your paint brush, on the duplicated layer, paint over the black circles in both eyes

Drag layer below Eyes 2 and hide

 

Click on Eyes 3 and duplicate layer

Zoom in on eyes

Click on your foreground in your materials palette and using your eyedropper, pick a color close to the pupil

Using your paint brush, on the duplicated layer, paint over the black circles in both eyes

Drag layer below Eyes 3 and hide

 

Image > Canvas Size (change height to 700)

 

Add any copyright and text

 

Image > Resize > 71% (all layers checked)

Crop off any unecessary whie background you don't want

 

Let’s Animate!

 

(you should have your 3 copies of eyes hidden)

Hide your white background layer

 

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Open Animation Shop

 

Ctrl V to paste as new animation

 

Back in PSP

Activate your mover tool and click on your spider

Hold your Ctrl key down and hit your up arrow once

 

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Ctrl L to paste before current frame

  

Back in PSP

Hide your 3 eyes layers and unhide your 3 copies of eyes layers

Activate your mover tool and click on your spider

Hold your Ctrl key down and hit your up arrow once

 

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Ctrl L to paste before current frame

 

Back in PSP

Hide your 3 copies of eyes layers and unhide your eyes layers

 Activate your mover tool and click on your spider

Hold your Ctrl key down and hit your up arrow once

 

Edit > Copy Merged

 

Back in AS

Ctrl L to paste before current frame

 

Animation > Animation Properties > Opaque/white

 

Animation > Frame Properties > 17

 

Resize to your liking and Save As
